Drain Cleaning

Help my drain is clogged!

A clogged drain can mean many things. For some it is a simple issues such as a stopped up kitchen or bathroom sink. Others may find their toilet has clogged up. At times you may find that more then one clog has occurred at the same time. It is important to understand what these different clogs mean and why they happen.

Sinks
When a sink is clogged two things may happen. If it is a single bowl sink the water will fail to drain or drain very slowly. If it is a two bowl sink the water will move from one sink into the other and then level out. Either way the problem is the same. You have a clogged sink.

At this point you can attempt to unblock the sink. DO NOT USE CHEMICALS. Chemicals, especially those which contain ammonia or bleach may cause long term damage to your pipes through rusting and erosion. They will also make their way into the water system that you and your children drink. A plunger might work for a very simple clog that is not too far down the pipe. But if after several attempts the plunger does not do the trick you will need to think about calling in a professional plumber who can bring in a drain cleaning snake.
